Birthday Celebrations in Room 12

Room 12 enjoyed celebrating a pupil’s birthday.  There was a lot of excitement about the treats brought in to share.

Storytelling With Ailie

This week we have been extremely lucky to have had Ailie Finlay from Flotsam And Jetsam join us in school.  Ailie is a fantastic multi-sensory storyteller based in Edinburgh and she has been working with five different classes across the school as part of the Aberdeen City Arts Across Learning Festival.

She has thoroughly entertained us over the last three days with her wonderful tales and we all had an amazing time exploring storytelling with her.

Thank you so much Ailie for coming to work with us and we hope to see you again soon.

Celebrating Robert Burns with Room 12

To celebrate Robert Burns, Room 12 did some Scottish artwork. We looked at tartans and designed our own using Interactive Weaver (www.houseoftartan.co.uk). We had to select our colours, then the order they went in and the thread count. We have printed off our tartan designs and displayed them outside our classroom. We also took a copy home.
We made a 3D kilt for Robbie Burns! We had to cut out and colour the Burns figure and then choose from a variety of tartans to make a kilt, which we folded carefully and attached. We could also add a sporran (although this looked equally fabulous as a hat!!)
We made thistles using bubble wrap, purple wool and green paint. We chose from a selection of purples, trimmed the wool and glued it on to card, then we used a circle of bubble wrap to print the main part of the thistle with green paint. We think they look very effective!

Room 12 – Post Office Fun

Room 12’s Post Office

As part of our school topic “Our World of Work”, we have been looking at Post Offices and have set up our own one in the classroom!

We have been given some resources for role play from one of the local Post Offices and have been using them to write our own postcards to people in school, posting them and delivering them.

We have been using stampers and stamps, envelopes and parcels. We have been exchanging items for money at the till and taking turns to be the cashier. We have been learning how Post Offices work and the journey of a letter from writing it to its delivery. We have listened to stories relating to letters and postmen/women and used everything we have learned to role play and have fun at the Room 12 Post Office!

More photos to come!!

Halloween fun at Orchard Brae

In October the Pupil Council met and discussed options for a whole school  Halloween Activity.

The options were to have a Halloween disco, design a pumpkin or do both. After a whole school vote pupils chose to do both. A picture graph was used to share the results of the vote.

Caroline judged the pumpkin competition and decided that everyone was a winner as they were all unique and individual.

This was followed by the Halloween disco which was enjoyed by all.
