Room 15 explore Our World of Colour

Last term Room 15 explored Our World of Work.  We all made posters of ourselves as workers.  We think one of our class must have had inside information about our next topic.  She chose to be a painter and now we are exploring Our World of Colour! We had a class outing to a DIY store and investigated the many different colours of paint there.  We all looked closely at the colours trying to decide which was our favourite.

Football Tournament

The football team recently played another session of matches at Aberdeen Sports Village. They showed great improvement and battled on despite fierce opposition. Congratulations to them all for their sportsmanship. They were all a real credit to the school!

Happy Valentine’s Day from Room 13

Room 13 have been making Valentine’s cards for those special people in their lives: Mum, Dad and Auntie. We took a lot of care making our cards and enjoyed the process.

Room 18 Keeping Fit!

As part of our Senior Phase Curriculum, pupils from Room 18 have been keeping fit at our local Sports Centre. They have taken to it very quickly and are very much enjoying the cardiovascular equipment. We’ve shown enthusiasm in cycling, rowing, using the cross trainer and treadmills. Many of us enjoy walking uphill on the treadmill and some of us have even been for a run. Good effort Room 18! We all need to follow in your footsteps a bit more!

Lawman Piano arrives at Orchard Brae

Today we were very lucky to receive a Lawman Piano which had been gifted to the school to help support all the amazing development and engagement work that takes place with our Music Therapist Emmeline. The Lawman Panio was created by Gordon Bell Pianos in conjuction with Passell designers to celebrate Aberdeen footballer Denis Law receiving the Freedom of Aberdeen City in 2018. The Panio has been on a tour of all the Football clubs that Dennis Law played for and on it’s return was auctioned off for charity. We are delighted to have been selected as it’s permanent home where we are sure it will be used by all of the pupils in school.

One of our Senior pupils really enjoyed the opportunity to make music on this amazing piano, which is fabulously decorated, including its light show and Dennis Law’s signature.

Room 14 Exploring Our World of Colour

Room 14 enjoyed exploring the snow and ice last week. We added food colouring to make the snow change colour. Everyone had fun.

This week, Room 14 had fun exploring the colourful world of musicals in Drama with Sam. We focused on the musical, Hairspray.

Celebrating Robert Burns with Room 12

To celebrate Robert Burns, Room 12 did some Scottish artwork. We looked at tartans and designed our own using Interactive Weaver (www.houseoftartan.co.uk). We had to select our colours, then the order they went in and the thread count. We have printed off our tartan designs and displayed them outside our classroom. We also took a copy home.
We made a 3D kilt for Robbie Burns! We had to cut out and colour the Burns figure and then choose from a variety of tartans to make a kilt, which we folded carefully and attached. We could also add a sporran (although this looked equally fabulous as a hat!!)
We made thistles using bubble wrap, purple wool and green paint. We chose from a selection of purples, trimmed the wool and glued it on to card, then we used a circle of bubble wrap to print the main part of the thistle with green paint. We think they look very effective!

Room 16 Exploring the Snow

We have been having fun exploring our playground in the snow, listening to the sound our feet make, looking at the patterns in the grass.  We all had rosy cheeks after 10 minutes outdoors.

Room 17’s Burns Supper

On Burns Day, Room 17 held a Burns Supper. We piped the haggis in, listened to a poem about the haggis, toasted the haggis and ate our haggis, neeps and tatties! We then danced a ceilidh dance we learned and finished our Burns Supper by singing Auld Lang Syne.

Robert Burns Ceilidh

On Thursday the 24th of January we had our Burns Lunch followed by a very successful Ceilidh. It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves, dancing to the music provided by our Music Therapist, Drumming Instructor and their musical friends. A big Thank You to all of them for coming along to help us celebrate Robert Burns Day.
