Google Classroom

We are very excited because today is the day that Google Classroom goes live at Orchard Brae and huge thanks to everyone who managed to log into their Google Classroom accounts last week.  And for those of you who haven’t managed to log on yet here is a video of some of the fun and exciting things you’ll find in Google Classroom!

If you are having any difficulty accessing Google Classroom or require any further supports and advice, please contact your child’s teacher who will be happy to help you.

Primary Department Activities – Week Beginning 15th June

Today’s the day … our Google Classrooms have gone live!  Your child’s teacher will be using Google Classroom to share activities with you but we are aware that some families are waiting on technology and other supports to enable them to access Google Classroom so we will still be posting a selection of activities here too.

If you would like to share how you have got on with our activities, please email any photos via your child’s teacher, through Google Classroom, the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page or email Amy Dunnett (Principal Teacher Primary) adunnett@aberdeencity.gov.uk.  Downloading videos from the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page appears to be working again (fingers crossed!) however if you are having any issues, please send them using a free transfer site such as Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Vocal Warm-Up: Tarzan

“For this week’s vocal warm-up we are going to be pretending we are Tarzan or maybe an ape. Take a deep breath in and vocalise whilst beating your chest, someone might be able to help you with this. It makes quite a funny noise. We will explore making this noise at different pitches and different volumes.

Days like This: Part 1 – Verse 1

To continue our wide variety of Makaton Songs this week we are going to be doing ‘Days Like This’ by Van Morrison. This song is a brilliant one for signing along to and also moves at a more steady speed than Dance Monkey did last week! Today we are going to learn the first verse. The words for the first verse are;

When it’s not always raining there’ll be days like this
When there’s no one complaining there’ll be days like this
When everything falls into place like the flick of a switch
Well my mama told me there’ll be days like this

A Busy Week In Primary

All the staff at Orchard Brae are missing seeing all our pupils every day and we are always eager to see and hear what you’ve been up to.  We love seeing what everyone has been busy doing while they are at home and we have some wonderful photos to share with you this week.

If you would like to share what you have been up to at home, please send any photos or videos via your child’s teacher, the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page or email Amy Dunnett (Principal Teacher Primary) adunnett@aberdeencity.gov.uk.  Downloading videos from the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page appears to be working again (fingers crossed!) however if you are having any issues, please send them using a free transfer site such as Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Birthday Boy!

It was fantastic to see how one pupil celebrated his birthday this week.  We hope you, and everyone else who celebrated their birthdays last week, had a wonderful time!

Working Hard

You’ve continued to impress us with your hard work at home, whether it be developing your writing and fine motor skills…

…engaging and listening to your teacher reading you a story…

…sorting by colour and ordering by size…

…or exploring familiar stories using your senses.

Out And About

It’s been great seeing where you’ve been visiting when you’ve been out and about in your local communities and all the fun things you’ve been up to.

Life Skills

It’s been a busy week for you all, exploring and developing your life skills.  We were really impressed with how you’ve been helping around the house with the cooking and cleaning – even some of your toys got a bath!

Getting Active

Working on developing your core strength and movement skills is so much more fun when you’ve got company!

Sensory Fun!

It’s always fun to explore with your senses, and you’ve had a great time this week creating sensory artwork, playing in pools full of water and balls, getting messy and listening to music.

And Always Remember…

Remember to have fun together and keep smiling.

We can’t wait to see what you get up to next week!

Music With Emmeline – Friday 12th June

Musical Story – Tabby McTat

Today’s musical story is going to be Tabby McTat by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. During the story there is a little song sung by the Busker and tabby McTat, can you join in singing it with Emmeline? Here are the words:

Me, you and the old guitar,
How perfectly happy we are.
Meee-ew and the old guitar,
How Purrr-fectly happy we are.

What Makes You Beautiful: Part 5 – Whole Song

It is now time to put all of ‘What Makes you Beautiful’ together. We hope you have enjoyed learning it and now can sing along to One Direction at home!

Autism Outreach Service – Presentation: Behaviour as Communication

‘What is your child or young person’s behaviour trying to tell you?

A guide to resources, strategies and tips to support positive behaviour management.

Sometimes, when you have a child or young person with an additional support need, working out what they are trying to tell you can be difficult! Your child or young person may be beginning to develop some behaviours that challenge you or they may already have behaviours that challenge you. There are often complex reasons behind a child or young person’s behaviour and it is rarely anyone’s ‘fault’. All children and young people are different and there is often no single answer as to why the behaviours are happening. These behaviours can occur at any time, and in any place, but the strategies and supports that will help are the same no matter where, or when, the behaviour happens.

There is no ‘quick fix’ but hopefully this presentation will give you some ideas and advice and show you that there are lots of ways you can help and support your child or young person.

At the end of the presentation there are lots of links to additional resources that you may find useful!

Music With Emmeline – Thursday 11th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Familiar Song – I Am The Music Man

This week’s well-known song is going to be ‘I am the Music Man’. The only difference is we are going to be singing our Scottish Version of the song! Our Scottish Music man is going to play the fiddle, bagpipes, harmonica and the accordion! See if you can join in with all of the actions that Emmeline will teach you at the beginning of the video.

What Makes You Beautiful: Part 4 – Verse 2

We are going to learn verse 2 of ‘What Makes you beautiful today and this will be the last part to learn before putting the whole song together tomorrow! Here are the words;

So co-come on, you got it wrong
To prove I’m right, I put it in a song
I don’t know why, you’re being shy
And turn away when I look into your eye-eye-eyes
Everyone else in the room can see it
Everyone else but you

Music With Emmeline – Wednesday 10th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Soundscape – The Car Journey

Today’s soundscape is going to be ‘going on a car journey’. We have provided this picture as a visual stimulus but perhaps you could imagine being the passenger on a car journey you enjoy. Imagine you are in the car and watching things moving by. Do you have anything at home that reminds you of being in the car or the noises you might find here.

Please relax, listen to the music, look at the picture, imagine you are on your own car journey and take deep breaths

What Makes You Beautiful: Part 3 – Verse 1

Today we are going to learn the first verse of ‘What makes you beautiful’. The words are;

You’re insecure
Don’t know what for
You’re turning heads when you walk through the door
Don’t need make-up to cover up
Being the way that you are is enough

Music With Emmeline – Tuesday 9th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Favourite Song – The Penguin Song

Today’s musical activity is going to be learning the very popular ‘Penguin Song!’ Emmeline is going to sing you the song and talk you through the actions. Hopefully there will be lots of penguins singing and dancing by the end of the song!

What Makes You Beautiful: Part 2 – Chorus

It’s time to learn the second half of the chorus today. See if you can add them together at home. The words are;

If only you saw what I can see
You’ll understand why I want you so desperately
Right now I’m looking at you and I can’t believe
You don’t know, oh oh
You don’t know you’re beautiful, oh oh
That’s what makes you beautiful
