Some of the pupils in room 17 and 18 have been working on a variety of HE units. They have been focusing on cleaning skills and food preparation tasks. We are planning to post some of the recipes that are being used in HE so that they can be used at home.
Howes Hoose have been working on increasing their independence in the kitchen, working on food preparation skills and using electrical equipment safely. They have been using these skills to run their soup making business, with the profits going towards the residential and Duke of Edinburgh trips that they will be attending in the Summer term.
Room 14 have been developing their food hygiene and preparation skills with the pupils in S4 working towards National 1 SQA units.
These are some examples of the activities that we are working during PE classes in both Primary and Secondary at Orchard Brae. As you can see we have been having lots of fun and been learning new skills.
On the 7th of November, we were lucky to have the amazing children’s author, Phil Earle, visit us at Orchard Brae as part of the Scottish Book Trust 20th anniversary tour.
We had a wonderful time hearing about where Phil finds his inspiration (his family, wrestlers and front doors have been big influences) and we even got to hear him read two of his books to us along with a wee bit of dressing up in between!!
Phil has since written a wonderful blog for the Scottish Book Trust about working with pupils with additional support needs. There are some great photos of his visit to Orchard Brae included in the blog and he confirms what we all know about our students – that they are passionate and enthusiastic and this shines throughout everything they do!
Well done to all the students who participated with such enthusiasm and thank you Phil and the Scottish Book Trust for an amazing experience that they will never forget!
Room 9 pupils are studying the book Elmer by David Mckee. They are proud of the Elmer’s they coloured in which are all on display in our classroom.
The group were working with Toby , our Duke of Edinburgh support person, learning to put up a tent. Thankfully it was not pouring with rain or blowing a gale so we did very well. Everyone agreed it was very cosy inside!
