This week, R12 have done lots of work on Remembrance Day. We watched a powerpoint that focused on poppies and went on to make our own in a variety of ways: we made poppy wreaths and printed poppies using apples cut in half. We now have a beautiful wall display in our class and a poppy on our door.
Pupils in Howes Hoose did a great job packing up the Rotary Christmas shoe boxes. We wanted to give you the update that an amazing 50 boxes have been packed and sent to the Rotary to go to families across Europe. A massive thank you to everyone who donated items to the appeal. Well done all
Room 16 have been continuing to work on their use of household appliances for their SQA award. We have been having great fun learning to use an electric fan and blowing things around our classroom using the different settings. We experimented with throwing leaves into the fan and feeling them land back on us. Spraying water into the wind was definitely a firm favourite and we ended up with a lot of wet faces! At least we had a fan to blow us dry again!
The first pupil council activity this term was based on Halloween activities. Each class carved a pumpkin for the pumpkin patch display. Well done to Room 9 for having the strongest muscles to carve out a traditional Jack’o’latern from a neep! We have also been growing pumpkins in the playground since before the summer holidays. They look fab. Each class were asked to choose a song for the Halloween virtual disco.
Next month we will be considering “What’s your favourite thing about November?” Is it the feel of wooly hats or listening to the fizz bang pop of fireworks? Maybe its the smell of baking Christmas cakes?
Howes Hoose have been busy packing the shoe box donations for the Rotary shoe box appeal. We received a huge number of donations and the pupils in the Hoose have already packed 25 boxes! A fantastic effort. Thank you to everyone who donated items for the boxes, they will be heading to their new home in time for Christmas.
In Room 15, our hard-work culminated in getting to enjoy the party we have spent the last 8 weeks planning and preparing for as part of our ASDAN Transition Challenge work. Some of us needed no encouragement to party, and we all joined in with time. It was a fun way to celebrate our achievements and wind down for the end of term!
We’ve also expanded a lot of our ASDAN New Horizons work on emotions to apply some of the regulation skills we have been learning about throughout our school day and explore practical applications of our learning. Music is a definite favourite in our class!
A special shout out has to be made for the progress made with everyday routines – from coming to sit with the group independently for familiar activities, to following modeled instructions for the first time, to trying new foods, to eating more independently, to spontaneously using a new communication element (such as a new sign or communicating for a new function) – the team are incredibly proud of how hard you have worked. Well done Room 15!
As we move forward this term we’ll be exploring time as we learn about when special events occur (we can definitely expect a messy bucket time for fireworks day!) and use technology to prepare for them.
Room 10 have been enjoying ‘Making their marks’ in class and are getting better and more independent in it each time. Lots of dexterity is being used and fine motor skills are being developed as the children hold brushes and pencils, and they are making personal colour choices too. We are experiencing the sensation of writing our names with lots of support, and beginning to understand what our names ‘feel’ like.
Last week it was Maths Week across Scotland. We asked classes to share work that they had been doing in Maths and Numeracy. Thank you to our Primary colleagues for sharing some of the lovely learning they engaged in.
Room 18 has been enjoying PE outside this term. We have been developing our ball and racquet skills by performing various drills. Our tennis skills are developing nicely.
