Google Classroom

Our Google Classrooms are now live!  Your child’s teacher will be using Google Classroom to share a range of learning activities with you but if you haven’t logged in yet or having difficulty accessing Google Classroom, please contact your child’s teacher who will be able to offer you support and advice.  Here is a short video to show you some of the exciting things happening on Google Classroom.

We are aware that some families are waiting on technology and other supports to enable them to access Google Classroom and we are currently trying to source appropriate devices.  If you require a device to support home learning and did not complete the online form sent out last week, please contact Amy Dunnett (Principal Teacher Primary) adunnett@aberdeencity.gov.uk

We love seeing how everyone is getting on with their learning and if you would like to share any photos or videos please do so via your child’s teacher, through Google Classroom, or email Amy Dunnett (Principal Teacher Primary) adunnett@aberdeencity.gov.uk.

Autism Outreach Service – Presentation: Nursery to P1 Transition

This is a new presentation written by Hayley McFarlane, a member of the Autism Outreach Team. Under the current circumstances we thought it would provide useful information for those schools with pupils transitioning into Primary 1 from Nursery.

Specifically the presentation will look at how to support transition through the use of visuals.

Autism Outreach Service – Presentation: Supporting ASD in the Secondary School

This presentation is one that has been delivered to education staff in the past as a twilight workshop, presented by Hayley McFarlane and Laura May, members of the Autism Outreach Team. Under the current circumstances, our team thought it would be useful for staff to have access to it online, to help contribute towards CLPL.

The presentation will briefly discuss the following topics, giving you some simple ideas of how you can support an autistic young person in your class or school :

  • Anxiety and ASD
  • Sensory Needs
  • Transitions
  • Emotional Regulation
  • Exam Support
  • Support in class
  • Routine and Structure

Music With Emmeline – Friday 3rd July

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Musical Story: The Scarecrow’s Wedding

This week’s Musical Story is The Scarecrow’s Wedding by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Emmeline is going to read the very eventful story of Betty and Harry and at the end of the story is going to play the ‘Wedding March’ by Mendelssohn. This is a very popular piece of music for weddings and we are sure you will recognise it. If you would like to listen to the music again after the story here is a link for it.

Someone You Loved: Part 3 – Verse 3

It is time today to sing and sign the last part of Someone you loved before putting the whole song together tomorrow. Here are the words.

And I tend to close my eyes when it hurts sometimes
I fall into your arms
I’ll be safe in your sound ’til I come back around.

Music With Emmeline – Wednesday 1st July

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Soundscape: A Monkey Swinging Through The Trees

Today’s soundscape is going to be imagining you are a monkey swinging through the trees. We have provided this picture of a monkey swinging through the jungle as a visual stimulus but perhaps you would like to close your eyes and imagine you are a monkey up in the trees. Do you have anything at home that reminds you of the jungle or monkeys?

Please relax, listen to the music, look at the picture, maybe you are a cheeky monkey up in the trees with the wind blowing past you as you swing around!

Someone You Loved: Part 2 – Verse 1

Today we will be learning the second Verse of Someone You Loved. Here are the words.

I’m going under and this time I fear there’s no one to turn to
This all or nothing way of loving got me sleeping without you
Now, I need somebody to know
Somebody to heal
Somebody to have
Just to know how it feels
It’s easy to say but it’s never the same
I guess I kinda liked the way you helped me escape.
