Fun In Music Therapy

One pupil had a lovely time in music therapy with Emmeline this week.  He enjoyed turn-taking and copying on the piano as well as singing well-known nursery rhymes, especially ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat’. There was also lots of fun as he started making up his own songs with a lot of “Achoos!” and “Uh-Ohs!”

Room 13 Explore Aberdeen Nuart

As part of our Interdisciplinary theme ‘Our World of Rights’, one of our pupils has been out and about on public transport locating the Nuart in the city centre.

He has seen how the art work is carried out using “cherry pickers” for the artists to reach the highest points of their art work.

He will keep a photographic progression of the art work and exhibit his findings on a notice board in the school for all to read, enjoy and gain information from.

Room 9’s Beautiful Vases

The pupils in Room 9 recycled plastic bottles and made beautiful, colourful vases which can be used for holding flowers. Our pupils selected the colours they wanted to use and made choices about how to paste the cellophane onto the bottles. In doing so, the boys and girls were reinforcing the skills they developed previously when they made their Elmer the Elephant models. They commented on their work and were encouraged to comment on each other’s vases when they were on display in our classroom.

The Greatest Showman in Room 12

Room 12 thoroughly enjoyed their Greatest Showman themed drama lesson. Drama Sam had brought in some fantastic props for us to use and we had great fun displaying our skills with hoops and ribbons! It just so happens that The Greatest Showman is a favourite with some of our classmates, so we know the songs quite well. We were dancing, singing and acting being circus performers, and that wasn’t just the pupils…!

Papier Mache In Room 4

The children in Room 4 have been creating their own colour amongst the stars.  They used papier mache to make planets and then decorated them in different colours.

Active Schools Curling Festival

Pupils enjoyed taking part in the curling festival at Curl Aberdeen. We rotated around 6 different stations and had the opportunity to try different activities. Everyone tried pushing the stones at skittles, targets and playing a game of curling. We all had different strengths: some of us were very good at aiming for the centre of the target, gently pushing the curling stones with just the right amount of force, while others were very good at skittles due to our ability to push the curling stone a long way.

Thank You Nadine

We would like to say a big thank you to Nadine Allan who finished her placement with us at Orchard Brae last Monday, working alongside our Music Therapist, Emmeline. She is in the first year of her music therapy masters at Queen Margaret University and as you can see we’ve all had great fun working with her.

Good luck with the rest of your course Nadine and we hope to see you again in the future!

PE Challenges for Room 14

Room 14 have been enjoying obstacle courses in PE this term.  We have been climbing, doing hurdles, walking on uneven surfaces and going in, on and under things.  We have also really enjoyed bouncing on the trampette.

Our pupils have grown in confidence and have been challenged with different apparatus, growing in confidence as a result of this.
