Halloween Fun at the Pupil Council Disco

The pupil council decided they wanted a Halloween disco and a pumpkin carving competition on Halloween. We enjoyed a whole school disco, with all the tunes being selected in advance by the pupils.  There were lots of fantastic costumes too.

Potted Sports

Everyone enjoyed the Potted Sports organised by our PE Department on Wednesday. Thank you to everyone involved for the hard work that went into this, including our Howes Hoose pupils who supported at the stations. We all had a great time moving around in our class groups, finishing up with a running ‘marathon’ for any Secondary pupils wishing to participate. They were well supported by those opting to spectate.

Fun And Games In Room 9

This term the pupils in Room 9 have been learning to play Boccia and Curling. Recently, Curling has been very popular and was the 1st choice of our pupils today. We have discovered that the Room 9 pupils and staff are very competitive!

Spring Art in Room 9

Room 9 pupils appreciate our natural world.

They have observed Spring daffodils growing and produced these wonderful paintings depicting our class’s daffodils.

We have all looked at the paintings and commented on them. We all agree they are fabulous pieces of art.

Room 9’s Beautiful Vases

The pupils in Room 9 recycled plastic bottles and made beautiful, colourful vases which can be used for holding flowers. Our pupils selected the colours they wanted to use and made choices about how to paste the cellophane onto the bottles. In doing so, the boys and girls were reinforcing the skills they developed previously when they made their Elmer the Elephant models. They commented on their work and were encouraged to comment on each other’s vases when they were on display in our classroom.

Creating Colourful Art In Room 9

Room 9 pupils have really enjoyed our topic this term – Our Colourful World. We have made Elmer the Elephants using recycled materials, we are currently re-using plastic bottles and turning them into colourful vases and recently we did self-portraits. Our portrait gallery is on display outside our classroom for other pupils and adults to enjoy.

Ragbag Collection

The pupils in Room 16 have been working hard on our Ragbag project for 18 months now.  We are delighted to confirm that we have raised approximately £900 for the school fund (that’s more than 2 tonnes of clothing that have been saved from landfill!).

Rag bag is a Scottish textile and clothing recycling scheme.  Items are graded according to their quality at their premises in Falkirk.  Wearable items are sent to developing countries as 2nd hand clothing, items which may have been torn or damaged recycled and become carpet underlay or industrial cleaning cloths or even mattress lining.  Either way they are kept from landfill.

There are 3 collection schemes, 1: send bags home, 2: inside collection bin (at school front office) and 3: external collection bin.  We are proud to say that we have all 3 schemes in operation.

We collect clothes, pairs of shoes, belts and bags.

So this Spring, as you clear out your winter wardrobe, feel free to fill a bag of rags for us!

Exploring Elmer In Room 9

The pupils in Room 9 are continuing to enjoy listening to, looking at and doing work from our Book Study of Elmer by David McKee. Our herd of Elmer’s has expanded. Some of our pupils enjoy playing with these wonderful models they made – the Elmer’s are lined up, placed in order, grouped altogether and observed.

We have also experimented with water and ink, noting what happens when the two combine. The pupils in Room 9 together made a lovely piece of modern art based from this science experiment.

Room 9’s Book Study

Room 9 pupils are studying the book Elmer by David Mckee. They are proud of the Elmer’s they coloured in which are all on display in our classroom.

Having fun in Room 9
