Class 6/7 Celebrate Chinese New Year

Class 6/7 were very busy last week exploring Chinese New Year.  We enjoyed hearing the story of how the animals became part of the Chinese calendar and worked out what animal we were born under.  There were lots of different crafts throughout the week including colouring in and making paper dragons.  The best bit however, was our Chinese New Year snack at the end of the week.  We had the opportunity to taste a range of Chinese foods and used key vocabulary boards to make requests and comment.  Almost everyone thought the fruit and prawn crackers were the best bit.  YUM!

Room 7 Celebrate Burns Night

Room 7 have been busy getting into the Scottish spirit in preparation for Burns Night on Friday.  We coloured in our own tartan and designed our own unique tartan using the House of Tartan Website on the interactive board (www.houseoftartan.co.uk).  We listened to The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson in Scots and enjoyed listening to some of Robert Burns poems as well a variety of Scottish music from groups such as the Corries and the Proclaimers!  We can’t wait for our class Burns Supper on Friday afternoon.

Room 6/7 and their World of Work

As part of our Interdisciplinary theme ‘Our World Of Work’, Rooms 6 and 7 have been busy looking at the different types of work we can do both in school as well as at home and in the community.

Some of us have been working on developing our skills and independence in our everyday work sessions by practicing following our schedules and sitting at the table for a period of time. Others have been undertaking a variety of household and self-care tasks such as cleaning, recycling and making snacks.

Halloween fun at Orchard Brae

In October the Pupil Council met and discussed options for a whole school  Halloween Activity.

The options were to have a Halloween disco, design a pumpkin or do both. After a whole school vote pupils chose to do both. A picture graph was used to share the results of the vote.

Caroline judged the pumpkin competition and decided that everyone was a winner as they were all unique and individual.

This was followed by the Halloween disco which was enjoyed by all.
