Room 16 have been working hard learning to use the toaster in class. We are enjoying the smells, tastes and sounds of the crunchy toast. Some of our class have been using their toasting skills to work towards an SQA award Using General Household Electrical Appliances.
Room 15 have been incredibly busy these last few weeks! Alongside building relationships and establishing routines, we’ve also been hard at work.
We’ve launched ourselves into our ASDAN projects – exploring friendship for PSE as we get to know our classmates, and planning a social event for our Transition Challenge work (ASDAN work is a legitimate reason for an end of term party, no?). We’ve used technology to vote for our social activity and prepare a music playlist, and we’ve made decorations. We’ll be continuing to build on this over the coming weeks.
We’ve had bucket time sessions where we build our focused attention skills. It has been brilliant to see the progress our class are already making with focusing on the bucket. Check out the rainbows we painted for our first stage four activity (independent work task)!
We’ve also introduced a life skills session to our timetable, where we’ve been sharing responsibility for our classroom and increasing independence with skills relating to cleaning and tidying up.
Last week we made the most of the fabulous weather and took our snack outside – a lovely opportunity to enjoy those friendships we’ve been building since we came back.
The boys of Room 14 have settled back to school well but our classroom was a wee bit boring.
So what to do?
Create some art and make the class our own. Here are some pictures of the boys creating their very own coats of arms to decorate the class and make it their own.
They have also been busy picking, planting and watering the tatties in the polytunnel so tasty tattie treats are on the way!
We have had a very busy start to the term. Some of our favourite activities have included rounders outside, floating and sinking, Boccia and lots of dancing! We have been watching some of the different sports in the Paralympics and made figures out of tinfoil to make a Paralympic display.
Room 12 listened very carefully to our story “A Funny Thing Happened on the way to School” by Benjamin Chaud and Davide Cali.
The story is all about a child making excuses for being late for school…one of which is a giant ape mistaking the school bus for a banana!
We made our own collage apes using different materials – leather, felt, wool, crepe, sticky paper, tissue paper etc. They look fab on the wall outside our classroom!
The teachers are hoping the Room 12 pupils haven’t picked up any good excuses for coming in late now…
Room 17 have enjoyed settling back into a new school year after the summer holidays. We have really enjoyed seeing all our friends again and welcoming some new faces into the classroom too. Over the last few weeks, we have been familiarising ourselves with school and class routines. In the mornings, we have focused on our communication skills and getting to know one another. We especially like it when we hear stories from home about what everyone has been doing so we can share them with each other! We have all settled in really well and we can’t wait to see what the rest of the term brings.
This term the Outdoor Learning Team will be focusing on Health and Wellbeing Curricular areas. So far pupils have been exploring the playground and reacquainting themselves with the sights, smells, sounds and equipment.
Learning tasks will be playground based and will include loose parts play and water play. Your child’s teacher will let you know which day they have outdoor education. The aim is to use outdoor spaces as much as possible and having waterproof and or warm clothing will be essential
