Room 5’s ‘Frozen’ Christmas Outing

On Wednesday, everyone in room 5 enjoyed a fantastic end of term Christmas trip to the Vue Cinema to see Frozen 2.

We enjoyed watching this new story about Anna and Elsa unfold.

This was our second trip to the cinema and the boys did really well tolerating the new and different sounds and lights in the cinema.

We are looking forward to the New Year and planning more exciting class outings.

Artie’s Tartan Tales

Today we were lucky to have had a very special visitor, Artie from Artie’s Tartan Tales.

We all sat patiently waiting for the show to start and Artie said hello to us before the show.

We were thoroughly entertained throughout the whole show! Artie performed a variety of Christmas songs as well as some old favourites from the Singing Kettle.  He had staff and pupils bopping around, singing along and copying the actions!

He spent time meeting some of his biggest fans after the show (yes, Claire from Room 2, we mean you!) and even allowed us to explore his magical Singing Kettle!

A fantastic time was had by everyone and we hope to see him again at Orchard Brae in the future.

However, if you can’t wait that long, Artie will be performing a special Burn’s show at The Aberdeen Arts Centre on January 25th 2020.  Tickets can be booked using the link below:

Christmas Jumper Day

Orchard Brae Pupil Council have organised a Christmas jumper day in school on Friday 13th December. This is just for fun – no need for any donations.
Staff and pupils, feel free to wear a something festive – it doesn’t have to be a jumper, all Christmas clothing and accessories are welcome!

Orchard Brae Christmas Fair

A huge Thank You to all those who attended the Fair, Stallholders, Raffle ticket purchasers, bakers and those that manned the stalls, made cheese toasties, cups of tea and coffee or wrapped presents.

Also a big Thank You to Emmeline and our amazing Makaton Choir who wonderfully entertained the crowd with their Christmas songs. They were obviously all enjoying themselves.

It was wonderful to see so many people there and the Friends of Orchard Brae are delighted to announce that the grand total of £4,200 has been raised. We hope the Fair started off everyone’s Christmas celebrations and some presents were purchased or raffles won.

Makaton At Orchard Brae

Following on from our successful launch of the Makaton Taster Session for Santa’s, Aberdeen City Health And Social Care Partnership, released this wonderful video.

It contains interviews with our music therapist, Emmeline as well as our colleagues in Speech Therapy and of course, footage of our amazing Makaton Minis and Makaton Choir.

PE With Room 4

PE is always such a big hit for the children in room 4!

Physical Education offers so much to our children:

Social skills, turn taking and collaborative team work are just some of the benefits of a balanced physical education program.

Room 8 Explore ‘Grandpa’s Handkerchief’

Room 8 have just started looking at a new story, ‘Grandpa’s Handkerchief’.  The story is about a sociable and kindly Grandpa who plays with his grand-children every day – thus providing us with  a fun way to learn the days of the week.

Red, blue, yellow, green… Grandpa’s handkerchiefs are useful in so many ways!  For waving to trains, making a sailing boat, bandaging a knee, or reminding Grandpa about a special birthday!

Each day focuses on a different activity.  Monday is about trains singing and dancing. Tuesday is about playing at the park. Wednesday we are going to be pirates with hats and swords. Thursday is party with a very exciting and unusual cake. Friday is baking. Saturday is football and Sunday is gardening.

The class are going to be working on this story over the next three weeks as we learn the different songs and actions to accompany each exciting day with ‘Grandpa’s Handkerchief’.

Tuesday Music Group – Cancelled

Unfortunately there will be no Tuesday Night Music Group at Orchard Brae Tonight.

Apologies for the inconvenience and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
