A Busy Week In Primary

All the staff at Orchard Brae are missing seeing all our pupils every day and we are always eager to see and hear what you’ve been up to.  We love seeing what everyone has been busy doing while they are at home and we have some wonderful photos to share with you this week.

If you would like to share what you have been up to at home, please send any photos or videos via your child’s teacher, the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page or email Amy Dunnett (Principal Teacher Primary) adunnett@aberdeencity.gov.uk.  Downloading videos from the Orchard Brae School Facebook Messenger page appears to be working again (fingers crossed!) however if you are having any issues, please send them using a free transfer site such as Dropbox or WeTransfer.

Google Classroom

It’s been an exciting week with our Google Classrooms going live and there has been lots of fun activities and Google Meets happening over the week.  If you haven’t yet signed up, here’s a little video to show you some of the things you can find on Google Classroom.

If you are having any issues logging into Google Classroom or would like further help, please contact your child’s teacher who will be able to support you.

Magnificent Minibeasts

We’ve loved seeing how much fun some of you had exploring minibeasts this week.  You went on minibeasts hunts and found some on your travels…

…you got creative and designed your own…

…and you also enjoyed making art with things you found in nature.

Working Hard

You’ve continued to wow us with the amazing work you’ve been doing at home, practising your fine motor skills through writing and painting…

…reading a story…

…sorting by colour, and ordering numbers…

…and identifying shapes and sorting money.

Life Skills

It’s been a busy week for you all, exploring and developing your life skills.  We were really impressed with how you’ve been helping with the shopping!  And one pupil got a special visit from the tooth fairy.

And Always Remember…

…keep having fun!

We can’t wait to see what you get up to next week!

Happy Birthday!

We would like to wish a very happy birthday to our pupils who are celebrating their special day next week.

Here is a very special song to each of you from our Music Therapist, Emmeline – trust me you wouldn’t want to hear the rest of us sing!

We hope you all have a wonderful day.

Music With Emmeline – Friday 19th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Musical Story: Superworm

Today’s musical story is going to be Superworm by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler. Throughout the song there is a song that the other beasties sing to Superworm. Emmeline is going to sing it in the story and can you join in with her? The words to the song are;

Superworm is super-long.
Superworm is super-strong
Watch him wiggle! See him squirm!
Hip, hip, hooray for SUPERWORM

Days like This: Part 5 – Whole Song

We hope you have enjoyed this week’s Makaton Song. We know it might not have been very familiar to many of you previously but hope it is now! Even if you can try and sign along the word Day with the song it will be a very useful sign to have learnt this week. Good Luck!

Music With Emmeline – Thursday 18th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Familiar Song: Row, Row, Row Your Boat

We had no idea that there were so many verses to ‘Row Row Row your boat’! If you can at home, pretend you are rowing along too, perhaps someone can help you with this. Emmeline has added another verse at the end about a wizard which she made up but can you make up any more at home? As you can hear the verses can be very imaginative!

Days like This: Part 4 – Verses 4 and 5

There are two more verses of Days Like this to learn before putting the whole song together tomorrow. Here are the words for them.

When everyone is up front and they’re not playing tricks
When you don’t have no freeloaders out to get their kicks
When it’s nobody’s business the way that you want to live
I just have to remember there’ll be days like this

When no one steps on my dreams there’ll be days like this
When people understand what I mean there’ll be days like this
When you ring out the changes of how everything is
Well my mama told me there’ll be days like this.

Slinky Malinki wakes from a cosy sleep, stretches and slips out through the catflap and into the night. But what will him and his friends get up to?

Music With Emmeline – Wednesday 17th June

Here are today’s musical activities from Emmeline.

Musical Soundscape: Blowing The Dandelion

Today’s soundscape is going to be imagining blowing a dandelion. We have provided this picture of a dandelion as a visual stimulus but perhaps you would like to close your eyes and imagine your own field of dandelions. While you listen to the music can you imagine taking deep breaths and slowly blowing the dandelion? Perhaps you make a wish on your dandelion.

Please relax, listen to the music, look at the picture, is there a dandelion in your garden you can pick and take deep breaths.

Days like This: Part 3 – Verse 3

It is now time to learn the third verse of Days Like This. Here are the words.

When you don’t need an answer there’ll be days like this
When you don’t meet a chancer there’ll be days like this
When all the parts of the puzzle start to look like they fit it
Then I must remember there’ll be days like this.
