Room 12 Are Getting Ready For The Christmas Fayre

Room 12 have been making dog biscuits to sell at the Christmas Fayre. We had great fun mashing up the banana! We added oats (which are also great to play with) and a dollop of peanut butter, then rolled out the mixture. We then popped our trays of biscuits into the oven to cook.

Once they are done, we will stamp out labels and put them into Christmas bags ready to sell. Please come and visit our stall to buy!

Health and Wellbeing in Room 17

In Room 17, we have been thinking about our personal health as part of our SQAs. We have been participating in different activities, such as relaxation, yoga, body awareness, and using our different pieces of equipment. We have been enjoying trying and participating in the different activities, which help us to feel better about ourselves.

Salt Dough Crafting in Room 16!

One of our ASDAN modules this term is to make something using a new and different material so we made some salt dough decorations. We transferred the skills we usually use when making and playing with play dough to squish and roll out the dough. Then we used our cutters to cut out some fun shapes before using a straw to make a hole for hanging it up. It was so much fun squeezing the dough!

Then we practised our waiting skills because they took A LONG TIME to harden. We checked on them throughout the week and then finally, they were ready to paint. Instead of brushes, we made choices between using pompoms and pegs or our hands and fingers to apply paint to our decorations. Everyone did a fab job and I think the decorations turned out great!

Howes Hoose Enterprise

Pupils in Howes Hoose have begun their soup enterprise project and already have lots of happy customers!  Pupils are involved in every aspect of making and selling the soup. Work begins with going round the school to ask who would like soup that week, a great chance to practise interacting with less familiar people. Next is shopping for ingredients and then making the soup in the Hoose. Selling the soup is another opportunity for practising communication skills as well as handling money. We then do some learning activities around the money we have raised!

The first week we made leek and tattie soup with tatties we grew ourselves in Outdoor Education – it was a hit!

Exploring Food In Room 17

Since returning from the summer holidays, Room 17 have enjoyed settling into our classroom and making some new friends. We have particularly enjoyed exploring some different food textures and making some beautiful artwork with them. This has included using some homegrown tatties from our garden to make prints, and cauliflower heads as effective prints for leaves for an autumnal picture.

Building Relationships In Room 16

Since the start of term, Room 16 have been busy building our relationships and routines together. We had lots of fun in the hot weather using the paddling pool and water guns to help us all cool down in the heat. We discovered that spraying each other with water was a great way to build friendships and trust with others as we asked for permission first. All pupils loved the chance to engage in water play.

We have also been engaging in Bucket Time which has really helped to capture everyone’s attention. We have done a great job learning the songs and have already been joining in singing loudly. We have enjoyed the exciting Part 2 activities, shown excellent turn taking in Part 3 and already shown great effort in the independent tasks of Part 4.

Tidying Up In Howes Hoose

The pupils of Howes Hoose have been sprucing up their outdoor environment since returning to school. One of our first tasks was to wash and paint  our garden furniture. Running out of paint called for a trip to the shops which gave us the chance to practise our life skills out and  about in the community. We also helped tidy up the school sensory garden to make it a welcoming place for our peers as well as some litter picks along the farm track to care for our local area.

2023 Leavers

Our Secondary Awards and Leavers Ceremony was held in school on Wednesday. Congratulations to all of the Award winners and thanks to the families that joined our celebration.

Today we bid a final goodbye to another fantastic group of young people who have all made huge progress over their years in Orchard Brae. It was an emotional day all round as we celebrated their success and wished them well.

Thanks to Nadine of Elm Music Therapy for making our Leavers video this year:

To our leavers, it’s been an honour and privilege to work with you all and we wish you all every success in the next stage of life. We will miss you all!
