Learning to share in Room 5

In Room 5 we have been reading ‘Sharing a Shell’ by Julia Donaldson. We enjoyed reading it as a sensory story and exploring different materials like water, shells and bubbles, and feeling the wind from the ‘storm’. We are learning to share with our friends, like the characters in the story, so we used lots of turn-taking language as we passed objects around.

Learning with Supertato in Room 9

This week, We have been reading “Supertato – Run, Veggies, Run!” as part of our topic work. In the story, Supertato tells the other veggies that they need to “get into shape!”. We have been following the example that Supertato and the veggies set by finding different ways that we can stay active and look after our health. We have also taken the opportunity to learn about different shapes – we have mainly learned about circles, triangles and squares. We have demonstrated our listening skills when hearing the story, been active with our friends in Room 10, and continued to develop our mark making skills to decorate different shapes. We even helped the veggies get “into shape” in one of our activities, too!

Is the Dentist Like a Superhero?

Superheroes come in all shapes and sizes. Wonder Woman uses her superhuman strength, speed, and ability to fly to beat the bad guys, while heroes like Batman and Iron Man rely on state-of-the-art inventions to help them join the fight against evil—even though they’re just ordinary people. What if we told you a dentist has more in common with superheroes than you might think?

Room 8 organised the Project ”What makes someone a superhero?” to help our pupils to boost their enthusiasm for trips to the dentist.

We used these ways to highlight that a dentist is like a superhero.

1) The dentist role-playing taught us to protect ourselves by flossing and brushing our teeth.

2) This role helped kids fall in love with science and dentistry. Many superheroes, like The Flash and Iron Man, were scientists or inventors before they started fighting crime. They inspire kids to love science and stand up for good throughout their comic series and movies. Our fun tooth decay experiment with eggshells was all about teeth and how to keep them healthy. First, we talked about how important it is to brush our teeth every day and then chatted about foods that are good for teeth and foods that aren’t.

Sugary, sticky food is not suitable for teeth as it sticks to the surface. Bacteria then break down the sugar to make acid which can damage teeth.

3)We summarised that dentists support kids with healthy smiles they’re happy to show off.

We also learned that we don’t need special powers if we’d also like to be a superhero. Like a dentist, we can start conquering plaque by brushing and brushing and flossing our teeth regularly at home.

At your next appointment, your dentist will see how healthy your teeth look and know that you’re a dental superhero in training!

Harvest time in Room 5

In Room 5 we have been learning about autumn and harvest time. We have painted and carved pumpkins, made beautiful apple print pictures and experienced the feeling of dried leaves. We made some lovely suncatchers for our class window out of dried leaves we collected when out and about. We enjoyed all the different textures and smells of autumn.

Introducing – Bucket Time! Room 9

In Room 9, we have been enjoying the wonders of Bucket Times. For some us, our Bucket Time experiences over the last few weeks have been our first experience of Bucket Time. We have been demonstrating our attention skills during Stage 1 of Bucket Time, and have been drawn to the different activities that have intrigued our sensory needs – we have enjoyed watching and listening to the different adult led activities in class.

We have been engaging so well in Stage 1 of Bucket Time that we have already progressed on to Stage 2 – we have been so focussed on the longer activities, and use our preferred communication to ask for “more!”.

We can’t wait to get our own hands messy, as well as demonstrate our turn taking skills, after the October holidays when we start Stage 3!

Hello everyone from Room 11!

We have been working on our ‘SuperTato’ Literacy. All the learners had great fun with sensory experiences such as mashing potatoes, cucumber eye masks and forehead masks for some and jelly art. This week we are making different coloured ice art.

Looking For Autumn In Room 2

In Room 2 we love to go out in the community for nature walks, exploring the world around us and how things change with the seasons.

This week we enjoyed exploring the signs of autumn.

We found some conkers and enjoyed playing with their spiky shells before cracking them open to find the shiny, brown conker inside.

We also enjoyed collecting leaves that had changed colour from green to yellow, red and brown.

We took some back to class to investigate their texture and smell.
