Orchard Brae Connect Coffee Morning

Following the announcement of the relaxation of the COVID rules earlier this week we would be delighted if you can come along to meet in person at the ReCHarge Cafe in the Bon Accord Centre, for tea / coffee and cake!
We have booked a large table so there will be room for us to space ourselves out. We also note that we are still being asked to take a lateral flow test before meeting with others. 
We hope that this might become a regular event giving us all the chance to meet other parents and carers from Orchard Brae in person until such time that we can return to meeting at school.

 The main features of this service are:

  1. Emergency Arrangements message for Parents/Guardians

To be used to inform parents/guardians of emergency arrangements and important announcements, e.g. early closure arising from adverse weather conditions/failure of heating systems.

  1. Voicemail for Recording non-urgent Messages from Parents/Guardians

The system also has the potential to record brief messages of a routine nature from parents/guardians.  You will be advised at a later date if this feature is to be activated.

  1. List of Messages containing School Information

This could hold routine information for parents/guardians, e.g. the times for a Parents’ Night, School Concert details, etc.

Parents/Guardians can access these features by dialling this National Rate number:

 A Council message will be heard followed by a request for a six-digit PIN number specific to their child’s school.

The Pin Number for Orchard Brae School is     011890.

 Once connected, a voice will speak out the name of the school and a series of prompts will guide the caller to the appropriate option.  The cost of calls is no more than 10p/call (landline calls).  You can also check school closure status on the School Closure page on the Aberdeen City Council website. Orchard Brae Advent Calendar: Days 15 and 16

Apologies for no Countdown yesterday (Santa’s mischievous elves were tampering with the technology!) so today we are sharing two special festive treats.

For Day 15, please join the pupils from Orchard Brae Nursery@Ashgrove as they show you their drumming talents!

For Day 16, we are delighted to share our Makaton Choir’s performance of ‘I Want A Hippopotamus For Christmas’ which was shown at the recent Evening Express Carol Concert at P&J Live.

Head Teacher Christmas Blog

As Christmas fast approaches, it has been a time for me to reflect on my first four months as Head Teacher.  It has been a wonderful time getting to know all the pupils and families better and despite the pandemic we have achieved so much in a short space of time.  Following a very supportive visit from HMIE, we can now focus our attentions on driving forward with our improvement priorities.  It has been a very busy term for pupils and staff, there been exciting learning and teaching, preparation for our winter festivities, appearing in concerts and making our wonderful digital advent calendar, all of which you will see on our website.  Once again, a big thank you to Keith and Emmeline for their continued contribution to our musical endeavours!

Now, we move on to the holidays and I am mindful of the need to take time for ourselves over the Christmas period.  We are still faced with the ongoing issues and potentially further restrictions that this pandemic brings.  Therefore, it is important that we look after our health and wellbeing as we need to be reinvigorated for the year ahead.  We want to be able to welcome our whole school community back in January.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all, pupils, parents, friends and staff of Orchard Brae for your continued support and wish you and your loved ones a restful Christmas and a New Year that brings health and happiness.
