Making some noise in Room 14

We play music with Scott, experimenting with different instruments and the sounds they make. One of our pupils is really fond of the drum sounds what this drum machine makes. We practice to identify emotions and how to recognise them. This will help us to better understand how others and we feel.

We are ordering the numbers from one to ten to practice our numeracy skills.

Parachutin’ n Bubblin’ in Room 15

Room 15 have had a great (and busy) start to the term. We’ve been playing lots of games with the parachute and had blown lots of bubbles! We’ve been creative and arty by painting on a huge piece of paper. We’ve done some experiments with some colourful results (lots of food colouring involved!). We’ve had a lot of fun and laughter as we’ve built new relationships within the class.

This week, we have been having lots of fun and getting a bit messy! We took off our socks and shoes and covered our hands and feet in paint before taking a walk around the classroom! The paint felt really cold and slippery between our toes and fingers! It was all worth it though as the end result looks awesome and shows us all taking steps together in our learning!`

Float or Sink? With Room16

We are looking at “Heavy and Light” in Numeracy through “Floating and Sinking”.

We took some classroom objects, predicted whether they would float or sink and plonked them into our basin of water. We then glued the results on to our worksheet.

Like Robin Hood in Room 17

Room 17 have been practicing their archery skills.  Some of us were better at it than others but we all tried really hard and had lots of fun. We thought it was great fun to knock down the castle with our arrows.  We also enjoyed target practice with lights – when we hit the target there were some sensory lights came on in our classroom.

Clothing bank is back again

Orchard Brae have restarted the clothing bank. We can provide preloved school uniform items for our pupils. This can also include warm jackets and blankets, depending on what we have in stock. Please either pop into school to view our collection or contact the school office directly if you wish us to send something home with your child. Alternatively you can email Ru Mason or Gill Moffat directly.

We are also gratefully accepting donations of good quality school uniform items that your child might have outgrown. Please send these into school and ask for them to be passed along to the office or Room 17.

Room 19 Life Skills

As the term progresses all pupils have had a chance to try out different work experience tasks in school.  They are becoming more comfortable with their roles and responsibilities and are clearly concentrating on their tasks.

Welcome back to Room 19!

Room 19

We’re only 2 weeks into the term and we are concentrating on establishing relationships and getting reacquainted with school life.  It can be quite busy in school so we have made sure to make time for relaxation too.  A particular hit for pupils and staff has been sensory massage songs.  These can be found on youtube, if you have 5 minutes and want to relax.  We Don’t Talk About Bruno, Sensory Massage Song

Our next focus will be to establish work experience roles for all pupils in class.  We’re starting with trying out different roles before appointing them.  The positions will include but are not limited to:

  • Organising weekly CFINE food bank bags
  • Looking after the house plants in class and offices
  • Food waste recycling
  • Representing the class at assembly
  • Collecting and delivering messages
